A formula for incorporating weights into scoring rules

چکیده
A “scoring rule” is an assignment of a value to every tuple (of varying sizes). This paper is concerned with the issue of how to modify a scoring rule to apply to the case where weights are assigned to the importance of each argument. We give an explicit formula for incorporating weights that can be applied no matter what the underlying scoring rule is. The formula is surprisingly simple, in that it involves far fewer terms than one might have guessed. It has three further desirable properties. The rst desirable property is that when all of the weights are equal, then the result is obtained by simply using the underlying scoring rule. Intuitively, this says that when all of the weights are equal, then this is the same as considering the unweighted case. The second desirable property is that if a particular argument has zero weight, then that argument can be dropped without a ecting the value of the result. The third desirable property is that the value of the result is a continuous function of the weights. We show that if these three desirable properties hold, then under one additional assumption (a type of local linearity), our formula gives the unique possible answer. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. A Linear Transform Scheme for Combining Weights into Scores
Ranking has been widely used in many applications. A ranking scheme usually employs a "scoring rule" that assigns a final numerical value to each and every object to be ranked. A scoring rule normally involves the use of one to many scores, and it gives more weight to the scores that is more important. In this paper, we give a scheme that can combine weights into scores in a natural way. We com...
متن کاملMulti-level Weighting in Multimedia Retrieval Systems
Ranking of relevant objects plays an important role in various applications especially in multimedia database systems and information retrieval systems. In contrast to traditional database systems, multimedia database systems deal with similarity queries returning a list of objects ranked by the objects’ overall score. The overall score for objects in the database is calculated using a scoring ...

Private finance initiative (PFI), as a form of public/private partnership (PPP), helps to contract the private sector to governmental projects. In contrast to traditional public financed projects, PFI projects are procured by allowing a private sector entity to take the responsibility to design, build, finance, and operate (DBFO) an asset for a contract period of up to several decades. متن کاملCompressive strength assessment of concrete containing metakaolin using ANN
Artificial neural networks (ANNs) as a powerful approach have been widely utilized to demonstrate some of the engineering problems. A three-layer ANN including three neurons in the hidden layer is considered to produce a verified pattern for assessing the compressive strength of concrete incorporating metakaolin (MK). For this purpose, an extensive database including 469 experimental specimens ...
متن کاملTailored proper scoring rules elicit decision weights
Proper scoring rules are scoring methods that incentivize honest reporting of subjective probabilities, where an agent strictly maximizes his expected score by reporting his true belief. The implicit assumption behind proper scoring rules is that agents are risk neutral. Such an assumption is often unrealistic when agents are human beings. Modern theories of choice under uncertainty based on ra...
